And since Fireworks is fully customizable, you can change the default auto-naming convention. And you can do that by selecting File> edit html setup. And the html setup has several tabs. Under the general tab, we can choose the style of how Fireworks will create the various Java script, and other html code. We can select how our tables will be created, and the tab we are interested in is Document specific. And here we can setup the auto naming conventions for this particular file. By default, it is set up for the document name, plus an underscore character, and then the row and column. In fact, here's an example: name13_r1_c2_f2.gif But all these options have Drop down menus. We can change the type of slice name we want to use, with the limited character that's going to separate the dot name as well as a slice number row column, etc. I'm going to go ahead and select nine. And down here below, I'm going to select where has frame number. I'm going to allow Fireworks the ability to give these different exported files a different name. I prefer the roll-over state. Over, down, and so forth. I'll go ahead and select that, and now you can see our example has changed as well. Name 13, which is the name of our document, our PNG file_over.gif and this makes a lot more sense to me when I'm going back and looking at different exported files that I might add in my images folder. In addition, this makes importing sliced images into applications such as Director, Upper ware, Visual Basic, what have you a lot easier. You can quickly identify the particular button that you are looking for and its state. And it makes it a lot easier when creating buttons and other navigational elements in these applications. I can also choose whether to set this as a default. And Fireworks asks: "Do you want to use the settings in this tab?" as a default for new documents. Now we go ahead and select OK, and then select OK one more time. Now if I click on the various slices, you can see if the name is located in the object area of our Property Inspector. Though we have one problem - they are all called the same name, I did not provide a specific name for the slice. We have a name for the initial name of the document, then we have a name for the various states, but not one for the slice. So I'm going to jump back to html setup>document specific, and go to plus, and select the slice number. And now we have the name of the document, the name of the slice, and then the various states. So one way to think about this is the default document name - this is the individual slice, and this is the frame that we are going to have Fireworks export for us. Once again, I'll set this as default, and select OK. Now if I go back, and I click on my slices, my naming convention is the way I want it. ack, and I click on my slices, my naming convention is the way I want it.
