Intro / Canvas Options

Subtitles of the Movie

When you first create a Fireworks document, you must specify certain document characteristics such as the canvas color, size, and so forth. You can also modify though the other size and color of the canvas and even change the image's resolution anytime using the modify menu or the property inspector. As you work with a document, you can also rotate the canvas and trim away unwanted areas. I am going to go ahead and use the property inspector to make a few changes to the canvas. The first thing I will do is select the canvas and we can see we have the options here below. One of the first things we can change is the optimize setting; currently it's set to JPEG - better quality. I can also change it to GIF adaptive 256, and if you look at to optimize tab, those settings have been changed to reflect that as well. From this drop down menu and canvas, we can select a different background color. We can also change the canvas size, and one of the options here is an anchor. And this determines how the new size will affect any existing object you have on the canvas. For example, if I put in 600 pixels by 600 pixels and go with the default center anchor, when I select OK, you can see the canvas was enlarged around my image of the eye. I will go ahead and undo that. And I'll do this change again; this time I am going to select or actually put in the same number of pixels. But I am going to change the anchor point to this upper left hand corner, so that this area here will be affected and this specific area will not. Once again you can see all this additional room has as been added. And this is rather important when you have built a web site and have various banners and navigation and so forth in the top. And you may need to increase the canvas space to account for other elements you need to place below. So you want to make sure that you determine and use the proper anchor point to do that. From the property inspector, we can also change the image size, and this essence actually changes the image properties. Including the pixel dimensions as well as the resolution; and you can set this in pixels and percent to change the dimensions. Or percent, inches and centimeters for the print size. And there's other options to constrain proportions, or to resample the image, which will add or delete pixels as necessary. There are other ways to modify the canvas, and that is through the modify drop down menu and you can select canvas. And here we have other options, we have image size canvas size, canvas color, which we have seen before. We can also rotate the canvas 180 degrees or 90 degrees clockwise or 90 degrees counter-clockwise. We can also trim the canvas; by selecting this, Fireworks will get red of all unnecessary areas, in this case trimming it to the exact size of our bitmap image. We have another option called fit canvas. And what this will do as I drag this bitmap image, I am going to drag it off the canvas a bit. And I am going to add another vector object and also keep this off or knock it off the canvas just a little bit. And I am going back to modify and select canvas>fit canvas. And what this will do is fit all objects that we have created and make them bring them into the canvas accordingly. So we can see all the various elements. have created and make them bring them into the canvas accordingly. So we can see all the various elements.
