Intro / Property Inspector and Panels
Subtitles of the Movie
The property inspector is a context sensitive panel that displays current selection properties, current tool options or document properties. For example, if we select the background canvas we will see information about the document. Selecting this bitmap image, we can see information concerning this image. Or if we select this red square which is a vector object, we can see information concerning that object. Like all other panels within Fireworks MX, the property inspector can be collapsed just to one line. By selecting the triangle key, we can collapse it or open it. In addition, we can also show the property inspector at half height. We can also collapse the panel group from this option; let's go ahead and open it up to full height. And like other panels the property inspector can be undocked and docked from its location. By selecting this gripper tool we can lift up and pull away the property inspector. By selecting it and drag it back down we can go ahead and re-dock it. The same thing with the other panels; for example I am going to select the optimize panel and drag it over to this workspace. And now we have a floating dialogue box. Selecting the gripper tool again, I can drag it up to the top and release it, and now I have docked the optimize panel on the right hand side. And much like the property inspector, we can also collapse and un-collapse various menu options. By incorporating these panels and these options, Macromedia has provided a way of keeping your work area clutter-free. You can use the various panels as you need them, and when you don't you can go head and collapse them to get them out of the way. To focus at the work at hand. And of course, these options are all shared within the macromedia MX family. One feature available to the PC users of macromedia Fireworks is the status bar. And that is the little status bar here in the lower left hand corner. When I make various selections on the canvas, screen, tools, whatever you can see that this status bar changes. This can be activated by selecting view, and then status bar. Now of course, you can toggle by turning this off and on. And for the rest of the training, I'll go ahead and keep the status bar off to provide us a bit more room. When you open up a panel group, there are various options that are available specific to that group. And that is on the right hand side here. If we select this, we will see options that are available only to that specific group. If we select optimize, once again we will see new options available to the options panel group. Macromedia has also provided a way to return the panels to their default settings. And that's under the commands>panel layout sets, and here you can select the screen size you wish to send or reset the panel groups. 1024x768, 1280x1024, 800x600 or you can save your own unique panel layout. nel groups. 1024x768, 1280x1024, 800x600 or you can save your own unique panel layout.
