FW MX Workflow / Transforming and Distorting Objects

Subtitles of the Movie

You can transform a selected object, whether it's a bitmap image, or a vector object or a group or even a pixel selection using the scale skew and distort tools and menu commands. I am going to go ahead and select our bitmap image, which will activate our transform tools, and let's take a look at the tools that we have available. The first is a scale tool, and of course this scales which enlarges or reduces an object on the canvas. Skew will slant an object toward a specified axis. And distort move the sides or corners of an object in a direction you drag a selection handle while the tool is active. And this is helpful when you trying to create a sort of 3D look. I will go ahead and select the scale tool and you can see now the various corners and the middle areas have been selected. I can simply drag and release, and we can scale the object accordingly. The skew tool does the same thing visually. However, now when we make modifications you can see that our bitmap image is being dramatically changed. And the distort tool allows us to distort the object. Giving us the ability to that create, once again, sort of a 3D type of image. Or whatever look we are trying to go for. I am going to go ahead and undo these. We can also apply transform effects to the objects on the canvas from the main menu. Under modify, we can select transform. And we have various options. One is free transform, which is a sort of combination of the various affects that we have before. In that case we are using scale. We can also rotate the object. We will select modify again, and like we saw in the tool bar we have the scale, skew, distort, and we also have numeric transform. This is ideal when we want to apply a specific transformation characteristic to the object on the screen. The first thing you need to do is select which operation you want to perform - either scale, resize or rotate. Then here you can apply the percentages. Other options include: scaling the attributes, and constraining the proportions equally. If I select OK, you can see now we reduced this image by 80 percent. We can also rotate the image to 108 degrees, 90 degrees clockwise, 90 degrees counter clockwise, or we can flip it horizontal or vertical. And once again, these sort of transformations work for bitmap images, vector images that you import or create within Fireworks, groups or even pixel selections. vector images that you import or create within Fireworks, groups or even pixel selections.
