Bitmaps in FW MX / Blurring and Sharpening
Subtitles of the Movie
We've looked at other options in previous movies on how we can sharpen or blur parts of the image. However, under filters we can globally apply this to the entire image, or if we have a marquee selection to that particular selection of pixels. Selecting blur will give the entire image a slight blur. Blur more will blur the image even more. Gaussian blur gives us the ability to apply a Gaussian blur to the entire image, and this is done by specifying the radius of the blur. A very low radius gives us a very slight blur, or by dragging the slider to the right we can make it quite dramatic. I will go ahead and cancel this. And another important filter that you use quite often, especially with scanned images, or one that has been downloaded from the digital camera such as this image, is sharpen. And you have three choices, you have sharpen, sharpen more, or unsharpen mask. I am going to go ahead and take a look at unsharpen mask. The sharpen filter basically adjusts the focus of a blurred image by increasing the contrast of adjacent pixels. And sharpen more increases the contrast of adjacent pixels by about 3 times as much as sharpen. However, you have a lot more control under unsharp mask. And here we can control the amount that will be sharpened, the pixel radius and the threshold, and we can visually see the results on the canvas. So we can very accurately get the amount of sharpening that we need that is appropriate to our image. I will go ahead and select OK, and now here is our new image. And we have adjusted the levels and sharpened it. is our new image. And we have adjusted the levels and sharpened it.
