Bitmaps in FW MX / Creating Bitmaps

Subtitles of the Movie

You can create bitmap graphics by using the Fireworks bitmapping drawing and painting tools. Or by cutting and copying and pasting the pixel selections, or you can convert vector images into a bitmap object. Another way to create bitmap object, is to insert an empty bitmap image into a document and then draw, paint or fill it. When you create a new bitmap object, it is added to the current layer. In the layers panel with the layers expanded, you can see a thumbnail and the name for each bitmap object under the layer on which it resides. While some bitmap applications consider each bitmap object a layer, Fireworks organizes bitmap objects, vector objects, and text as separate objects that reside on layers. Let's go ahead and insert a new bitmap image within our canvas. I will go to edit>insert and then empty bitmap. And now we have another layer in our layers panel. I will go ahead and select the brush tool, change the color here, make it a little bit wider. I am going to go ahead and just paint this right here on the canvas. And when I release my mouse, you can see we have a new bitmap image within our layers panel. And you can see it's completely separate from our mailbox below. Selecting the pointer tool, all I need to do is simply select the object to move it on the screen. I don't need to go and select the layer. I just simply select the object. And this works with vector objects, bitmap objects, text and virtually everything on the canvas. You can also copy and paste bitmap images from one application to another. And I do this quite often when I want to bring images into Fireworks. I can go ahead and select the mailbox, and with this marquee tool, select a portion. And I will come up to the top here and select a shortcut, and select copy and then select paste. And what Fireworks has done is create a new layer, right above the layer that I selected and copied the pixels from. I will go ahead and turn off the mailbox below. And you can see our new selection that we copied and pasted. And Fireworks automatically gave it a new layer. Now even with these objects selected or on the canvas, all I need to do is select them with my mouse pointer to make them active. And we go ahead remove some of this clutter off the screen. I can just simply select the layer I want to and drag it to the trashcan. Now I am going to create a vector object and place it here on the canvas. OK, now we have a vector object, and we can see it's called rectangle. I am going to go ahead and change this into a bitmap image. And the way you do this is to select the vector object you wish to modify. Select modify, and then flatten selection. And you can see now the name of this image has been changed. It is now called bitmap. This is now a bitmap graphic. And we can see that: we can zoom in on it, and in fact this vector object now has pixels so it's been turned into a bitmap object. 3:17.0] And we can see that: we can zoom in on it, and in fact this vector object now has pixels so it's been turned into a bitmap object.
