Macromedia Contribute 2 Tutorials

What is Contribute 2? / Workspace

Subtitles of the Movie

The workspace in Contribute is where everything happens that you are going to need when you are working with the program. Unlike programs like Dreamweaver Contribute has no separate tool palettes property inspectors, panels or anything like that instead everything is just in one quick easy to get to interface. We have six basic elements that we are going to take a look at. We have a menu bar, we have a pages panel, we have our for lack of better term our how do I panel, we have a document window, then we have our tool bar. Now let us start with the document window this is where you do all of your work in Contribute and this is using this window you can browse to pages where you want to edit, this page look like any other web browser and it actually is an embedded version of Microsoft Internet Explorer for your Windows users for the Mac users it is a version of Opera 6. Now you can view any web page on a internet you like, but you can only edit pages in your own website and will show you how to connect to those sites later on in the tutorial. And we have two tool bars that we can use in Contribute, we have the browser toolbar which works like any other browser and it also have what is being shown here is the editing toolbar. Which is skip ahead here to a website that we have permission to work on, we have our edit page, new page, back, forward, stop, refresh just like any browser and this allows us to edit our website. Now say we are going to go ahead and edit the page contact and then we have our editing tools right along here. And again we will get into each of these separately later on in the tutorial. Now the sidebar is your main navigation tool we have our pages area or pages panel this allows you to click any link in here and this will take you to the pages with new side that you are currently working on. We have the How do I panel which is a series of links on tutorials and tips on how you can use Contribute to help you design, build and publish your website. Your main menu functions just like any other application menu, the various commands and again will look at this later on in the tutorial. So basically when you get to Contribute it have a documentation area which is the main area and it functions just like a web browser. You have your side panels which you can use to go to pages that you are going to be editing and you have your How Do I Do panel which gives you links to various aids if you get stuck in anything. ]
