Cold Fusion MX 6.1 is a radical step forward in internet application programming. Combining the ease of a scripting language with the power of object oriented concepts, Cold Fusion allows developers to quickly create flexible, integrated web site applications. This training is focused on the newest additions to the power of Cold Fusion, components, As well as related concepts like XML and Web Services. We've reviewed attributes and values for different component uses, and looked at methods and their functionality. We discussed different component invocations and the best way to utilize each one and some ways to make components and methods work well together. We touched on design patterns since components bring the ability to work with object oriented design when writing Cold Fusion applications, and we discussed inheritance, packaging and polymorphism. We've reviewed variable scopes specifically related to components. Went through a brief overview of XML and its capabilities, and then built functionality to consume the amazon.com web service. We published the final version of our "Where's Tom" application, and then consumed it on two different sites, with different styles. Not bad for eight hours. Here are several references for more information about Cold Fusion components, XML and web services. First and foremost, of course, is macromedia.com. The developer center, tag exchange, and article archive provide developers with tremendous support. builder.com offers many in-depth and advanced level articles about Cold Fusion. cfczone.org has advanced information about components and the best mailing list available for topics concerning Cold Fusion components. The internet standards body w3c, continues to give users comprehensive and detailed information about web services and XML at www.w3.org. Ben Forda's "Advanced Macromedia Cold Fusion MX Application Development" is one of the best books available for developing Cold Fusion applications. "Inside Cold Fusion MX" will also give you a very good background in XML and web services with Cold Fusion. Finally, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
