Introduction / What You Need to Develop in CF

Subtitles of the Movie

What are the system requirements for running Cold Fusion on your box or developing in Cold Fusion? Well unless you are sitting in an environment where you have full-blown Cold Fusion server on the LAN or via the RDS connection or FTP connection, which we will get to in the next movie, you really have to have a web server on your machine, and Access or whatever your database application is going to be, as well as the Cold Fusion studio. I have Cold Fusion studio - it installs itself. The Cold Fusion express, you can download for free. They have various trial and free versions of the Cold Fusion server on their website You want to download them, download one after you have the web server or a web server installed on your machine already. So, here is a free trial version of Macromedia Cold Fusion. I have on my box Apache running, and for reasons unknown to me, I have Windows NT on my box here, 4.0 service pack 6a which is required for the very latest version of the Apache to run on your box. The very latest version of Apache would not install on my box. What else is new? So I went back to an earlier version, version 1.3.6 which would install on my box. I am not going to go through how you do that, but on what ever machine or whatever computer you are sitting at get some kind of a web server installed - personal IIS, Apache or what have you. So you get that installed, and you get it running and then you download the Cold Fusion server, and you install that and get that running. Follow all the help files and everything, it shouldn't be too hard I am not going to get into that here like I said, and then make your connections to your databases through your back end and so you have access to a database that you can use, and then install the studio, and you should be up and running. If you can't do of that server ended stuff, ask somebody to do it for you on the server, and just install Cold Fusion studio like you would any other application. In the next movie, we will go though how to set up these RDS connections, so that you can have access through FTP and RDS to various servers out there in the same way that you would have through your file system, just like this. hat you would have through your file system, just like this.
