Adhering to Standards / What Well Shoot for
Subtitles of the Movie
What are we going to shoot for on this CD? Well, I've already explained up at the top in the first, the very, very, very first movie on this CD what it is that we are going to do. We are going to set out to create a website. A community-based website where there are local businesses listed, and a corkboard for people to come and post messages. This is a, this is a reengineering of an existing site. You are watching me reengineer my existing hometown site, which is MontagueMA.net. That's actually my neighbor - isn't that funny that she come up now. Here is the corkboard as it exists now. I have it on the home page on this site, but I think I may want to move it to a sub page on the one that we are working on now. Or just show the very, very latest. But it's very popular a corkboard. It's very, very popular and there is a lot of talk about beavers in town recently. We also have the school committee on here. I wanted to expand this - I want to have many corkboards, I want to have a community corkboard, school corkboard, a classifieds corkboard, a job listings corkboard, there's many other types of corkboards that we could have. Putting it into a relational database as opposed to a flat file database, which is what this is, allows us to do many things. Such as corkboard type, just as we have business type. We can have in related tables the user names. Right now, whenever you want to enter in a message, you have to retype in all this information. I would like that to be kept within a cookie as a user ID. 'Hi, Sue, welcome back' - when they want to go fill in the form, all this is already put in. And it's secure, because we know that in order to have an account, we've checked her email address - I shouldn't be showing that. We've checked her email address. So these people are all known. You can't put a message up here without having a checked email address, which is good. So, that's what we are going to shoot for - we are going to have the corkboards, and we are going to have local business. And that will take up just about half, if not a little bit more than half of this CD, including the administration of both the local businesses and corkboards. There are many more things that you could do based on this information. After that, we will go through a lot but not all of the Cold Fusion tags and Cold Fusion functions. Just doing quick one off examples of each one: CF if, CF include, CF application, CF location. Not all of them, and mostly the simple ones that can just be done with a quick example. So on to the show. The next chapter will be creating the business directory. to the show. The next chapter will be creating the business directory.
