Luxology Modo 401 Tutorials

The Interface / Customizing

Subtitles of the Movie

Modo is very flexible in that you could create your own custom layout. Now what we're going to do is start completely with a blank slate and if you happen to mess up, which I have done on occasion, I've actually messed up so badly that I've opened a paradox in time and met myself in the future! So, once again this is some powerful stuff. You can go to the Layout Menu and you can choose a Layout. So we can go to Sparse, so we could just focus on our model. You can go to an older version of Modo, 201 Defaults, 301 Defaults. And if you mess up you can click Restore. And what we're going to do as well is we're going to choose Clear in this case. We're going to start from scratch. Let's go to Layout and we're going to go to the Window Menu down here and choose New Window. Now this guy is going to be our Control Panel. We're going to choose the Windows we want to place in our new layout, so I'm going to go to the upper right on this little arrow and I'll choose 3D Edit and I'll choose a, let's see, a 3D Model View and then with this little orange. I'll click and drag it to my left, or you can drag it up here, or anywhere you see the orange glow on the edge. And now it's docked into position and I can click on this line here in the center to expand it or to collapse it, whatever I want to do. Let's go back to this little upper right guy here and we're going to choose some tools. So I'm going to go to toolbars and I'll choose Modo Tools and I'll click and I'll drag it to the right of this guy and now we have our Tools. Now is it pretty? Not at all, but hey, I'm just showing you how this works. Don't blame the messenger. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go to my Paint Tools and as you can see I can choose some of these if I want to and I can choose anything, so I'm just showing you pretty much that you can get whatever tools you want to add pretty much to your own layout. So now that I've shown you that, as very easy as that is to do, let's talk about how to save this. We can go to Layout, Save As and you can call it whatever you'd like. Now, for VTC I've created my own Layout earlier and I saved it, so if I go to Layouts I can see I have VTC here and here's my own custom layout for recording. So how cool is that? Once again, if you've messed up beyond all hope, just go to Layout and choose one of these guys here and then you can go and be back in business. Don't forget, if you really, really messed up horribly, don't forget to visit the forums. This has happened to quite a few people so check out the forums and find out how you can get back to the original factory install of your Modo.
