Building, texturing and lighting models in Modo is a whole bunch of fun. You can create some really, really cool looking content, but you know what? How about sharing that fun with other people? Let's talk about how we can get this image in other formats so we can either use it for the Web, we can use it for e-mailing, or you can even have a painting object that you create inside of Modo be placed on another object as an image. So I'm going to go to the Render Menu and choose Render. Of course, you could have pressed F9. You'll notice that until it finishes rendering the Save Image button is ghosted out because it has to finish first. Now what we can do is click Save Image. Now what we want to pay attention to is the Format down here. Currently it's set to Targa, which is a very popular format for 3D modeling. It's a very popular image format so if you want to you know take this blimp and put it on a different, let's say a character's wearing a T-shirt and he has this blimp on, you can save it as a texture and then bring it back into Modo and put it on that character. You can also save it as a BMP, which is a Bitmap file; a GIF or GIF depending on where you come from, which is great for the web; JPEGs which also are good for the web, or even sending in an e-mail attachment. I usually send my clients JPEG files of my images so they can check it out. If you're doing things that require transparency, PNGs, or Portable Network Graphics are a great file format I like to use. Sometimes you won't necessarily see the transparency unless you go to 16 bit mode and sometimes I find that - I'm not sure if it's a glitch or whatever, but - sometimes this works fine, sometimes if I really want to force it show the background as transparent and I want to see that Alpha working I can use this format. A Photoshop document, which is the PSD, which is great when you want to go into Photoshop and you want to keep playing with it. Of course, by the way, you can use most of these to bring into Photoshop anyway, just build a new layer and then add your other effects. You can also save as an RGB image, a TIF and what I like about this is it gives you the exact definition of these little acronyms here, so Tag Image File Format; also, as I mentioned with the 16 bit PNG you also have the option for a 16 bit TIF and once again, these are some of the options that you might want to play around with but they're all usable in some fashion depending on what you want to do. Me, for my website, when I want to show people what I'm working on as far as new models, I usually use a JPEG and I use this format to also send to clients because it really shows up in an e-mail very nicely as well. So those are some of the file formats available for you to save your images out of, so you can send it around, or use it on other models.
