Text & Documentation / Find Linux Documentation on the Internet
Subtitles of the Movie
Exam objective 1.108.2 has a weight of 3, and verifies that candidates are able to find and use Linux documentation on the Internet. Sources include the Linux Documentation Project, Vendor and Third-party Web sites, news groups, news group archives, and mailing lists. Linux documentation is everywhere on the Internet. Anything you want to know about Linux is out there somewhere. The Linux Documentation Project, the LDP, is growing daily. It has lists of how-tos, books, guides, frequently asked questions, the MAN pages, and even an online magazine, the Linux Gazette. Some Web sites make it possible to post questions and get answers. Three of them are Just Linux, Linux Forums, and Linux Questions. And you can get yourself subscribed to a number of mailing lists. To find out about most of them send an e-mail message to this address and include the words: Lists and Help in the body of the message. You will get back a list of the mailing lists and instructions for subscribing to them. Here at Linux.org you will find a number of mailing lists named. Some of them are general Linux lists while others are for specific versions of Linux. You will also find some links to mailing list archives here. And there is a Linux newsgroup for almost every possible Linux subject, and you can get a list of them at this Web site. Each distribution has its own Web site, so if you have a question that is distribution-specific, you can go to that Web site and look for an answer. And there are lots of distributions. This site, the distrowatch.com, maintains a list of the top 100 distribution Web sites. Try using the Internet to find some specific information. Do you know how to configure your system as an NFS server? This is a common administrator task. You will some day need to know how to configure a Linux computer as a gateway to the Internet for a local network. The information is online.
