What is Lightwave 3D? Lightwave is actually two programs in one. The first part of Lightwave is called the modeler and this is what you create your characters whether it’s a cuddly teddy bear or a giant fire-breathing dragon. I am currently in modeler right now and as you can see, I have constructed a giant robot. You can also your build your sets in modeler such as furniture, rooms, vehicles and so on. Once you have modeled your characters and sets, you send them over to the second half of Lightwave which is called layout. In layout, you position your sets and props and you bring your characters to life by animating them. Just like a real movie studio, you have control over the camera, the lighting and even special effects such as fog and explosions. Let's take a quick peak at a scene I am currently working on in layout. This animation uses the same giant robot that I build in modeler. So as you can see, Lightwave was a virtual Hollywood studio that you can use to make your own films or just have some fun with. All you have to supply is the imagination.
