In this movie let's continue talking about remote installations. This time let's talk about taking a local site and installing it on a remote web server. For example, right now we have this site, localhost Joomla! 1.5 installed locally on our PC. What we have to do in order to be able to load it remotely is a few steps. What you start out with is go to your hard drive, go into that XAMPP Folder, then once you're inside there, open up htdocs and then find the folder that contains all the files. We used Joomla! 1.5 where we extracted all those files into there. What we want to do is either upload all of those files to our web host if we want that to be the main index page or we can just upload this folder as a subdirectory. But then it would be website.com/Joomla! 1.5 is how you would actually get to the Joomla! site. So first upload that. Your next step is to use phpMyAdmin. So go to localhost/phpMyAdmin. Look at your databases, find your Joomla! database. Here it is. And what you're going to do is export that database. You can leave all the defaults. And then you can just call it Export or anything you want to call it; doesn't matter. And then you click Go. And once you've got that done, you're going to take that Export, FTP it or import it into basically your web remote host. So you're going to go to your web host, create your MySQL database and import that data into it. Make sure you name your database the same as the one you've got now, just to make it easy. Now, your next step is to open up the file Configuration.php. Basically going to your local Joomla! install, find this file. What we're going to do is change it and then you would upload it or FTP it to your host. So what you need to change first of all is all this information right here. Find out what the host calls your database. What is the name of that host database? If you can't figure it out, just go to your phpMyAdmin on your website, open your website here, go to the top and it's going to tell you your server and your database name. So then go to your configuration file, type that host and user in here and your password, type in your database name and if you have a database password, that's also going to be in your configuration file. Then scroll down to the bottom and you need to change the location right here of the log path and the temporary path. So that would say, for example, on my website www.MyTechRelieve.com/Joomla! 1.5 or something to that effect. So those are the specific items that you will have to adjust and change. Then you just go up, FTP this into your website to the appropriate place, replace over the top of the other one and you'll have a working remote site.
