In this movie let's look at XAMPP. This is something from Apache friends to make it easy to utilize Joomla!. It's free, just like Joomla! is and it's under the same GNU General Public Licensing as Joomla!. Now, Joomla! requires PHP, MySQL and Apache. Because all those things are required to make Joomla! run correctly, they created XAMPP to make our life easy. Basically XAMPP keeps us from having to figure out all the tweaking of like your PHP INI File, your MySQL databases. So I'm at their website now. It's just ApacheFriends.org. To find XAMPP we just simply click right there. Now, XAMPP is going to install Apache Server for us. It's going to install MySQL, it's going to install PHP, phpMyAdmin, which is what you edit your MySQL databases with. It'll install an FTP server called Filezilla if we want that. There's lot of help files and forum areas in case you have problems with XAMPP and specifically the Apache Server. Basically what you're going to do is take XAMPP. You're going to select the platform that you'll need. You'll notice there's lots of different platforms here. They also have step-by-step information about it. So let's say we're going to install it for windows. Basically we select our platform there, choose what we need and here's we can do the installer, we can do the zip, we can do the executable, whatever we want to use, take that file and install it. You can also easily uninstall it. It comes with its own uninstaller to get rid of Apache Server, MySQL, whatever it is you need to get rid of. Now, on the Windows Installer, the one thing you want to be very aware of is this Vista note. You need to install XAMPP not to its default folder. You need to switch folders and use that. So if you're getting ready to follow me installing Joomla!, we're going to install XAMPP first. So take a minute and just read through some of the basic XAMPP information so you can kind of see what we're installing, where it's going to go and what it's going to do. It'll definitely help you prepare ahead of time just in case you run into a snag, just to be aware of the XAMPP site, understand where you can go to get help if you need to, documentation, et cetera.
