In this tutorial we take a look at the Resources and Tools that are available for us to develop in the YUI. Now a lot of the resources that we're going to be leveraging are going to come directly from Yahoo because the Yahoo User Interface Library is extremely well documented. And of course we have, over here on the left-hand side, our API Documentation, so if I click on that it takes me to the documentation where I can get all the information I ever wanted to know about each one of the different modules inside of the YUI Library including Cookies. And if I click on that module I'll get all the different methods as well as all the different properties that are available for this particular module. Now the API is extremely thorough, however, sometimes it can be a bit boring to read, but it is very, very accurate and you should not downplay the importance of the API. Now really the only reason why I say that it may be a little boring is because of all the other excellent methods that Yahoo has developed here for getting information out about their YUI you end up having the examples Gallery, so if I take a look at this we have all of the different libraries set up here showing you how to use each and every single one of those elements, and each of the different categories we took a look at. So if I do take a look at the Animating Motion just real quick here I'll see that example. And then, of course it talks about it below, and I'm just going to go back. So those are the examples. You can learn a lot from those examples. Also, on the left-hand side you'll see that there's Community and Contributions as well as the Discussion Forum, so if you go into the Community and Contributions you'll see information about the YUI Community and how you can get into the Contributors Forum. And the Discussion Forum is a place that you can go to ask your questions about how to use the YUI. You also have the YUI Theater. This is an excellent resource. The YUI Theater is essentially a lot of different videocasts that Yahoo has created with different industry professionals talking about different aspects of the YUI. And if you take a look at some of these names you might find some of them somewhat familiar as Yahoo has decided to employ some of the smartest people in the industry. OK so, the YUI Theater is definitely something you should check out. And we also have a number of YUI Articles about how to do different things, such as Building Custom Widgets, and Skinning the YUI. Now below that we have each of the different YUI Components that we can take a look at. And more or less what this is, is it's a shortcut to something that we have already seen by using the options here on the Home Page. So if I go back to the Home Page here I'll see those components listed out here. Now there's another resource that I may want to take advantage of and that is the Cheat Sheets. So if I take a look at the Cheat Sheets here, the Cheat Sheets are going to give me these quick references for all of the different modules inside of the YUI Library. Now if I don't want to download all of them, I can actually download them from each of the separate Controls and Utilities, so I'm going to go back into the AutoComplete here, and because of the size of the window here I wasn't able to see this, but over to the right-hand side it's got where I can download the Cheat Sheet for the AutoComplete Control. So if you click on that it's going to load up this into your Browser, if you have the appropriate software installed, or you can download the full set, or just download this one. Then you can print that out and have a nice little Cheat Sheet. And this is great, because this is something that Yahoo is providing their users so that they can implement their features a whole lot easier. I would say that the documentation for the YUI is world class. Now in addition to the resources that we find here, we also have some other things that are going to help us to develop our YUI. Now we have a few different things here. We have a tool called aptana, so I'm going to go to aptana.com and aptana, as I've mentioned in previous tutorials, is a free application that allows us to develop in a lot of different platforms including having support for the YUI Library. So checking out aptana Studio might be a good thing for you. Now there are also some Dreamweaver Extensions That will allow you to use the different functionality available in the YUI and to find those I'd recommend that you go to Adobe's website, go to their Extension Section and search for Yahoo or Yahoo Web Widgets and then download each of those and install those so that you can get started using your YUI inside of Dreamweaver. And that concludes our look at the different Resources and Tools that are available to help you use the YUI and that also wraps up our second look at the YUI.
