Visual Studio IDE / Errors Window
Subtitles of the Movie
Now the Errors Window that we're going to look at here, Errors, E-R-R-O-R-S, in case my accent makes that sound kind of funky to you, but the Errors Window is a really cool thing that's going to pop up for us automatically anytime we do something that the Compiler's not happy with, OK? And so let's take a look at an example of that. Not that you make errors, but I make them from time to time, and so what I'm going to do is just simply fat finger this. I'm going to put an extra E on the end of Blue. Now first of all, it puts some squigglies up there, which we'll talk about a little bit later on, and it's telling me, it's trying to tell me, hey wait a minute, dude. Something's wrong here, but for whatever reason I don't pay any attention to that, OK, and so like a true man, I'm going to go on anyway, alright? It's not that I could be wrong. So I will click on Build HelloWorld, that's for you ladies out there who are tired of putting up with us, but notice on the Error List this thing popped up. I didn't have to turn it on, or go chase it down or anything. It just popped up and it said, Dude, Bluee is not a Member of the System Drawing Color. Here's the file where this error occurred. Here's the Line. Here's the Column, and here's the Project that it's in. What's cool about this is, if I just double-click right here it takes me right to the error and gives me a chance to clean it up, OK? And so, I can come right here, figure out what the problem is, and you'll notice all my errors went away and I can rebuild and notice it says down here: Build succeeded, and there are no errors in my Error List, okay? Now, you'll notice that the Error List, like all other Windows, I can unpin it, and it will hop up and down as I mouse over it, and obviously I can pull it off and dock it somewhere else, or I can stick it back on the bottom where it was. OK? Pretty straightforward. Not a whole lot to say about this here, just except that Errors, Warnings, and Messages to you are going to show up down here. All you have to do is double-click on them when they show up. It'll take you to right where it is in the code, and you simply take care of it until these things go away, rebuild, keep rebuilding your project until your Errors are clear, and then you should be good to go, OK? So that's the Errors Window, and it's also called the Error List down here if you'll notice. OK, so on the outside event that you do actually have an error, it'll show up down here.
