No discussion of wireless hardware would be complete without talking about boosters extenders and other hardware such as signal finders. Boosters and extenders can extend the range of your wireless networks past the distance they were designed to transmit to. They enable you to receive, amplify and retransmit the signals from your wireless network out to a broader range of clients. This might be an inexpensive alternative to many access points set in ESS mode or infrastructure mode as it's sometimes called. You could replace some of those access points with signal extenders. Here on the slide is an example of a booster called an extender. A Linksys extender and essentially this device, when mounted inside the range of your wireless network, can take that signal and retransmit it out, extending the effective range of your wireless network. Now, there's plenty of other wireless hardware accessories out there. Let's talk real quick about wireless network detectors. Now, a wireless network detector, or wireless finders as they're sometimes called, don't require that you have a laptop or a PDA or a cell phone. They're basically just little radio receivers that detect signal strength of radios. They tell you the strength, direction and so forth. Here's a couple of examples of, uh, wireless finders. We have two very good ones that, uh, you can buy from anyplace online or at a local computer hardware store consumer electronics store. Basically they run usually about under 50 bucks, but they can show you how high or low the strength is and some of them, some of the more advanced ones can tell you even more information about it, such as the direction or, uh, what kind of protocols it's using and so forth.
