Basic Modeling Techniques / Adding the Grip Handle
Subtitles of the Movie
Now to create the trigger, I'll go ahead and flatten out the bottom of the faces as we did earlier with the bullet cartridge. I'll do an extrude and come down to the first line in the template. And then press the G Key and come down once more to the base of the trigger. Now I'll select my vertices and move them into the correct position to create the semi-circle of the trigger. And then the back portion of the handle. I'll Drag Select over the faces once again and this time extrude down just the handle portion. I'll extrude this out in one motion. And then go to my Edit Mesh, Insert Edge Loop Tool and split two edge loops. And then select those vertices and move them appropriately to the right positions. Now I'll zoom into the trigger. I'll delete out all four of the edges inside the trigger, select the face and then do a scale in extrude. I'll come back to my template and position it a little bit better. And then going back into my Three-Quarter View, I'll move the inside of the trigger all the way in and delete out the face. Now we'll go ahead and apply a shader once again and one more time I'll save this out as Weapon 05. I'll now select my faces of the bullet cartridge and using the Shift Greater Than Symbol, I'll move up and grow the selection and now simply scaling inward to thin out the cartridge I'll select the bottom vertices, also just to modify and make it more square. And in the bottom of my handle in the template, the bottom portion is flared out slightly. Once again, I'll grow the selection upwards. I'll select over all the vertices within the trigger and just flatten that out also a little bit. Once I'm happy with everything I'll then go back to my Side Viewport and one final time I'll select on half my weapon and delete it. Then once again Drag Select over my center vertices. Always go to the four wireframe just to ensure everything is selected. Now, you'll notice when I went ahead and merged, not all of the vertices merged correctly. The reason for that is during the modeling process, some of the vertices may get pushed out a little bit. These vertices are actually from the trigger so I'll use the Scale Tool and I'll just scale them in tighter. I'll move around my mesh just to ensure everything looks good and then I'll merge the vertices. I'll delete my history just to have a nice, clean mesh and then one more time I'll go ahead and save, overwriting the previous file. During the modeling process, your edges may become both soft and hard so I like to apply just a hard surface to everything. It makes it easier to see all of your edges. I'll save one more time and now I'm ready to begin building out the pump handle.
