Basic Modeling Techniques / Adding Further Details
Subtitles of the Movie
We're now ready to move forward. So far we've created the rifle barrel. We've also created the rifle butt handle, which I'll go ahead and give this a name. And now we could begin doing the further extrusions and face splitting that's necessary to continue. Within the barrel itself, I can see that I have several edges that are not lined up correctly. What I'll need to do is fix these before moving forward. One easy way of adjusting faces and selecting them all at one time is by going to Select, Select Edge Loop Tool and simply double clicking on an edge. That now selects the edge completely around the circumference of the model. I can now move that edge into place. In some cases it may not be lining up properly so I can use my Scale Tool just to adjust and straighten that out if necessary. I'll make just a few minor changes to the angle I have here in the rifle. I can select my vertices and move these from the X direction into the appropriate position. Let's go ahead to the front of the nozzle and begin finishing out the remainder of that piece. I'll select on one edge and use my Fill Hole Tool. That now fills it with one solid face in the front. I'll go ahead and select that face. I'll choose my Extrude Tool and move backwards. I'm going to scale that down slightly and pressing G I'll now bring the nozzle out. Press G once again, scaling down slightly and moving out for the slight bevel in the front. Once again, repeating my tool and then finally moving inward. Now, I can move over to my Side-View Panel and take a look at what I just created. I can select over the faces if I choose to fix this by scaling everything accordingly and I'll move that out. Now with that complete, let's go ahead and do the inner extrusion of both the pump handle track and also the top of the barrel. From my Front View I'll select Faces. In the middle of the barrel I'll choose the Extrude Face Tool and you'll notice we don't see a blue arrow. That's because we're currently in the front panel and it's being hidden so I'll mov to my Three-Quarter Perspective and I'll move my Blue Arrow in, which works well but it's also not giving me the slight indentation I need so I'll go from the red box, which is the scale, and I'll move that inward and then back to my Front View I'll begin lining this up properly. I need to come in just a little bit more and adjust my tool and move the mesh up. So now for the pump track we'll do exactly the same thing. I'll select my faces, I'll go into my Three-Quarter View, I'll move the blue inward and also the red inward slightly, moving back to my Front View and now once again lining that up appropriately. This time you'll notice my track is straight on the template so I have no need to mov it downward; however, I do need to select the edges here and move these down with the Move Tool. So now we've gone ahead and added in the additional front piece of the nozzle and the two inner extrusions to the rifle barrel. I'll delete history. This time I'll go ahead and save out as a new version because we've come quite a bit since our previous model. Next I'll show you how we create the bullet cartridge, the trigger handle and piece everything together into the final mesh.
