Basic Modeling Techniques / Image Based Modeling pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

I now have to create one more edge into the middle of my polygon face and I also need to connect the remaining edges. Earlier we went ahead and created vertices that were in a straight line. The reason we did so was that now using the Vertice Tool we can go ahead and literally snap it without having to line it up visually. I'll press my Y Key to end the command but keep my tool and once again I'll snap down to the next. I'll do this one more time in the corner and then finally I'll snap straight through to the remaining part of the geometry. I'll go ahead and clean up to make sure that my vertices are nice and straight and so you can see we have much of the face complete. With just a few more vertice snaps we'll finish out the remainder of the edges. And we're finished. It's very important At this stage, to go ahead and delete your history because you'll notice we created a little bit of history and it's always best to clear that out as often as possible. I'll delete my history and I'll go ahead and save this file as Weapon 02 and I'll continue to save my Weapon file in progression throughout the process. Now the next step is to mirror the geometry from one side to the other. I'll select on Mesh, Mirror Geometry, Option Box and I'll look at my compass indicator, which tells me that my geometry is currently in the positive X indicating the mirror direction needs to be in the minus X. I'll select Mirror and my geometry flips accordingly. Now I can go ahead and select the vertices straight down the line, look at my numerical value in my display, which indicates 14 so I know that I should end up with seven after I do my merge vertice. By knowing I have seven, I know that everything is snapped correctly. We're now finished with the image-based model. Now we're ready to go onto the next step of extruding the faces, similar to the Box Modeling Technique I demonstrated earlier.
