Now, another tool that's going to come in handy for us is going to be the Blur Sharpen Tool or also known as the Convolve Tool. Now, this tool is going to have some of the same options as we've seen with our other Paintbrush Tools but down here it's got this Convolve Type we can switch between Blur or Sharpen. Now, what Blur is going to allow me to do is basically blur out distinct edges and make it fuzzy because if you recall, the stem was kind of fuzzy so I actually want to duplicate that using the Blur. So I have it set to Blur and my Rate is 50. I'll go ahead and jump it up to say 60 and I'll increase my brush tip here and I'll just go over this edge and I instantly see it blurring out. Now, if I hide the background, I'll see a fuzzy edge and that's what I want. I want to continue to do that, go over it again and move on to the rest of the stem to introduce a bit more and there we go. Now, if end up going too far, say I move over a little bit into the tulip here, and I don't want it to be blurry or if I had subject matter that was already blurry, I can use the Sharpen to come in and remove some of the fuzziness. So that fuzzy edge is kind of taken away. Now, it's a whole lot easier to add blur than to take it away with the Sharpen Tool so do be aware of that and that the blur aspect of this is probably the most powerful element of this tool and probably what you're going to use the most; however, Sharpen can be used. You just need to be kind of careful with it. Now, the last tool that we're going to look at here to assist us with our digital painting is the Dodge and Burn Tool. With the Dodge and Burn Tool, you're going to be able to select whether or not you are Dodging or Burning. Dodging is going to make colors lighter. Burning is going to make them darker. So you can use this tool with digital painting to create highlights and shadows. It's also going to be available to you for your photo editing to remove areas that are too bright and distracting from the main focus of your pictures. So with these two items, you're also going to be able to select the range of colors it's going to be affecting. We can select shadows, mid tones or highlights and then lastly is the exposure and that's going to control how powerful the dodge or how powerful the burn would be onto the color. So with Burn selected, I'm going to go ahead and set it to shadows here and my exposure is 50 and I'll increase my brush tip here and I just kind of want to burn this side. Now, if you notice, that exposure is way too high and it's really made this really distinct so I need to undo that and drop my exposure down quite a bit and so as you see there, this Burn Tool is very, very powerful so you need to be kind of careful of how you use it because it can cause some other issues with making things look kind of strange. The Dodge Tool is the same way. I'm going to come in with the Dodge Tool here and I'm going to add in some highlights. Now, with the Dodge and Burn Tool you might actually end up wanting kind of a fuzzy brush. And so very quickly I've been able to add in these shadows and highlights using the Dodge and Burn Tool. And I'm almost done with my digital painting. I just need to take my digital paint layer, put it above the canvas, show my canvas and now I actually can see some issues I may need to correct but overall I now have my digital painting that I'm going to be happy with. So I'll go ahead and go to the File Menu and I will save a copy and save that as Digital Painting. And that concludes this video on Digital Painting.
