Introduction / Overview of Topics
Subtitles of the Movie
In this tutorial we continue our introduction to this video tutorial series by talking about the different topics that we will be covering. Now after our introduction we will start talking about how to get our systems set up to install the GIMP and then proceed to install it, after we get GIMP installed and running we will take a look at the interface of GIMP so we're going to look at the interface as a brief overview, looking at the different components, getting some terminology down so that we will feel a little bit more comfortable working inside of the GIMP. Then, we'll take a look at working with documents, how to open documents and how to do some simple manipulation of those documents including navigation, rotation, resizing, and saving. Then we'll take a look at how we can work with selections and layers and what those actually are. Now of course selections and layers are very fundamental to our understanding and working with the GIMP so we'll be taking a lot of time to work through those. We'll be following up that section on selections and layers with transformations so that we can apply different types of editing and manipulation to our selections and those layers. Then we'll follow that up with our painting and drawing tools because we can use our painting and drawing tools in a large number of ways and in different types of combinations with both selections and layers. After we take a look at those painting and drawing tools we'll look at how we can add text to our images, as well as working with some of the advanced layer options such as blending modes and layer masks. Then, we're going to get to a lot of the fun that you may want to do with the GIMP and this is talking about touching up photographs so if you have anything that may need to be fixed in a photograph we're going to take a look at how you can do that in this section. Now, the next section here on filters is going to be a lot of fun as well because we're going to take a look at the filters menu inside of the GIMP and see what all kinds of fun we can have. We're also going to take a look at some practical application of these things in terms of web design so we're going to take a look at how we can create some of our more common web elements inside of GIMP such as seamless backgrounds, then we're going to take a look at how we can extend the GIMP by using something called plug ins. Plug ins are going to give us a lot of functionality and in fact plug ins are a core feature of the GIMP but we'll talk more about those later. And then we'll do a wrap up and quick review of the things that we've discussed in this video tutorial series. In the last section of this video tutorial series we'll talk a little bit more about myself, so that concludes this video tutorial on the overview of topics that will be covered in our video tutorial series.
