About GIMP / Ways to Use GIMP

Subtitles of the Movie

In this tutorial we continue to examine the general nature of GIMP, specifically we will be discussing ways to use GIMP. Now the first thing I want to mention here is the GIMP is kind of like a Swiss army knife. Basically, it has a lot of different functionality built into it that you can use for a large variety of purposes. So let's go ahead and take a look at the different ways that we can use GIMP. So, the first and most common way that people will want to use GIMP is to edit their photographs. So if you have a digital camera and you need to correct some things with this digital camera such as removing red eye or perhaps rotating an image or adjusting lighting, GIMP is going to allow you to do that. Also, this other digital image files is going to allow you to work with things such as scanned images. If you're working with a scanner, GIMP is also going to allow you to work with those images as well. GIMP can also be used to create graphic design elements so if you're a graphic designer looking to create a brochure you can use GIMP to create some of those graphic design elements by manipulating your photographs and other items. Also, GIMP can be used to create web graphics and you can use a number of different things inside of GIMP for the creation of items specifically for web purposes such as animated gifts. Also, GIMP has a very robust tool set concerning your painting and drawing tools which would allow you to use GIMP as a digital art creation suite and there are a number of people who have excelled at this and of course the brushes and things inside of GIMP are always advancing so you're always going to have a fresh tool set available to you whenever you create inside of GIMP as a digital art tool. Of course, there are many more things you can end up doing with GIMP including working with 3D image files, specifically referring to creating the textures inside of GIMP that will be applied to 3D images, you can also work somewhat with video inside of GIMP, however there are some branches off of GIMP that are designated specifically for that and we'll discuss that in a later tutorial. Now the overall thing that I want you to remember is that GIMP is a full featured image editing program that is constantly being revised and improved so what this means is that if there's a feature that's not currently available in GIMP in this release it may be available in a future release, now because of the nature of GIMP being open and free software, if you're so inclined you could join in the development process to make that feature become available sooner than later so it's really easy to start to get involved with helping the GIMP community along however if you're not inclined to do that simply using the GIMP and telling other people about all the different features available to you in the GIMP is going to assist in getting GIMP more noticed and become more popular so that other people will want to contribute in terms of development of the program. So that's a short overview of the different ways that you can use GIMP.
