Additional References. At this point we're going to cover a few additional references that I might suggest for users who get more serious about working with Notation software like Finale. First, I would advise that you pick up a couple of very good Notation books. I've listed several here that I use regularly. This includes the Kurt Stone Music Notation in the Twentieth Century. This is an outstanding book that surveys many, many aspects of modern music notation beginning with the most basic types of notation and moving on through many, many of the contemporary notation styles that we saw in the middle period of the Twentieth Century. Additionally, the Gardner Read Music Notation book is a good reference as well. Finally, the George Heussenstamm Norton Manual of Music Notation is a great reference as well and, in all cases, I've given you the 13-digit ISBN number to allow you to find these quickly and easily through book sellers. Additionally, I'd suggest that you may want to pick up some Orchestration books. Some standard references include the Samual Adler Study of Orchestration, which is currently in its Third Edition, the Kent Kennan and Donald Grantham The Technique of Orchestration which is currently in its Sixth Edition and for an interesting historical perspective on orchestration the Rimsky-Korsakov Principles of Orchestration is a great historical reference. This book dates from the end of the 19th or early 20th Century and covers many of the details that you might expect to see in 18th and 19th Century Orchestral music.
