Printing to PDF. In this lesson we'll discuss the process of preparing an Adobe PDF file from your Finale document. Mac users who are using Mac OS X will be able to do this process very quickly and easily by going to the File Menu on the Main Menu Bar at the top of the screen, selecting Print and going through the process selecting Save As PDF at the end of the process. PC users will have a bit more of a process to go through and most of the rest of this lesson will be more useful to PC users. In order to print a PDF document we will need some type of PDF software that will allow us to format and print the document. There are a number of shareware programs that are after market. One of them is PDF Creator. This was recommended with earlier editions of Finale. Another after market software program is called PDF 995. This is listed currently in the Finale documentation. In order to print a document to PDF we will want to go through the documentation provided by our third party source. In many cases, this software will show up as a Printer option within the Print Menu. You can do this by going to Setup and selecting the appropriate software. You click OK, and OK. This will run us through the rest of the software process. At this point, a pop-up menu from your third market software provider may pop up with the chance to enter some information about your document. The process is usually fairly straightforward but we should remember that we have several options along the way including the option to encrypt our file or to make it unprintable so that end users will not have the option to print our documents. These will be useful features to many composers who are interested in publishing online.
