View Settings. In this lesson we'll learn about the different ways to view a project in Finale. We'll also learn some shortcuts to navigate between these different views. The main views in Finale are Scroll View, Page View and Studio View. To demonstrate these we'll use a Default Document. If you don't already have one open from an earlier lesson we can create one by going to File, New and clicking Default Document. Unless you've changed your Program Options, Finale usually opens in Page View. To access any other views we'll go to the View Menu and click on Scroll View. Scroll View lays out the document as one long system. This is convenient for entering music or doing arranging or orchestration. If we go back to the View Menu and click on Page View this brings us back to Page View, which shows the document as it will print. And finally, if we go to View Menu and click on Studio View we can see the document in Studio View. Studio View is similar to Scroll View but includes Mixer elements on the left side of the screen. We can toggle between these different views quickly by pressing Ctrl-E on the PC and Cmd-E on the Mac. This will switch us between Scroll View and Page View. To access Studio View we'll use Ctrl-Shift-E on the PC and Cmd-Shift-E on the Mac and, again, we can press Ctrl-E to go back to Scroll View and Ctrl-E one more time to go back to Page View. Additionally, there's a Tool Palette that will allow us to switch between these. We can access it by going to the Windows Menu, going to Toolbars and clicking on the View Toolbar button. This will give us the View Toolbar Palette. This will allow us to switch between Scroll View and Page View. Additionally, within each of these views we can zoom in and zoom out. We can do this by going to the View Menu and going down to Zoom. From here we can click on Zoom In, Zoom Out, Fit Width which will fit the width of our document to the window, Fit in Window which will fit the height of our document in the window, Custom Zoom 1, 2, or 3 which users will remember we set in Program Options and Other which allows us to specify a custom zoom percentage. Additionally, we can access these using the keyboard shortcuts listed on the right of these options - Ctrl equal sign, Ctrl Minus, Ctrl plus the square brackets, Ctrl 1, 2 and 3 for Custom Zoom settings, Ctrl 0 to set a specific custom value. Additionally, we can access Zoom Options with the Tool Palette. We can do this by going to the Window Menu, going down to Toolbars and clicking on View Percent Toolbar. This allows us to quickly and easily toggle between different zoom settings. Finally, Finale 2010 has added a feature that allows us to edit multiple pages at a time. To access this I'm going to add a few Measures to this document so that it spreads on to multiple pages. I'll do this by clicking on the Edit Menu and going down to Add Measures. This will bring up the Add Measures dialog box. Because I want this to spread onto multiple pages I'm going to add 100 Measures to this document. We can now see that the document's spread through multiple pages and if we click using the Page button down in the lower left of the Document Window, we can see that Pages 2 and 3 have been set up in Book format, as have Pages 4 and 5. I'll click all the way on the left and that will take me back to Page 1. In earlier editions of Finale we had the option to look at multiple pages of our Score but we could only edit one page at a time. There are some new options that come with this feature. To access those we'll go to the View Menu and go to Page View Style. From here we can see we have the option to set up Book Style or Looseleaf Style. This will determine whether pages are grouped in pairs the way 2 and 3, pages 4 and 5 have been in our document and we have the option to lay them out in a Row, a Column, Tiled, or to look at the Current Page Only. Current Page Only can be helpful if we have a large document that takes a long time to render on your system.
