TG Tools. In this lesson we're going to explore some of the features that come with the full version of TG Tools. Now this is not included with your default version of Finale. This is an additional AddOn that we have to pay for, however, I'm such a strong advocate of TG Tools that I've decided to go ahead and provide a short lesson demonstrating a couple of the great features that are available in the full version of TG Tools. For this lesson I'm going to go back to our second project. Now we took the time when we created our project to add some spacing between our various Staves. TG Tools actually is a great tool for doing this. On the right side of my screen you see that I have a menu item for TGTools. If I go down and go to Layout we can click on the Staff List Manager. This gives us the Staff List Manager Plug-in. Now we can begin by optimizing a Staff System and here we see that we have a number of options to set up our Page Layout. This includes the ability to simply turn certain Staves off and on, whether or not they're going to display on our score and to go through and numerically set values for our spacing. For example, we might choose to have some more fixed values between various Staves in our Score so that we can make sure we have a very consistent layout. This is probably one of the most useful features that we find in TG Tools. If we click the Redraw Screen command, that simply redraws the screen and we can see that the new spacing that I've set up has been applied to our document. Additionally, we can copy a page layout from an existing System to another System using the Copy From or Copy To commands. Finally, we can run the Find Optimization Errors command which will find any Staff that has notes entered in it that's not being displayed in our document. Now we notice if a Staff has notes in it it'll have an asterisk next to its name. If the Staff does not have anything in that System there will be no asterisk. Again, this is one of the best tools that TG Tools adds to Finale 2010. Additionally, we have some other options in the Modify. One of the standard tools that comes with Finale 2010 under our Plug-Ins is Align-Move Dynamics, however, the full version has a more extensive application of the Align-Move Dynamics including the ability to define precisely what is going to be moved, whether we want to work only with things Below the Staff, Above the Staff, if we select Both Above and Below it will look at them separately, Align Only Dynamical Text Expressions and Adjust Other Expressions Appropriately. Now again, the Align-Move Tool is used to align Hairpin Crescendos and Dynamics. That would be the most common application is to make sure that our Hairpin Crescendos and our Dynamics are very precisely aligned. We have a few other options including some tools that we're going to use in the Standard Set, the Process Extracted Parts command, and again, we have some more extensive applications of this. We also have the ability to create Harp Pedaling which will go through and analyze our entire document and will place Harp Pedaling appropriately. We have an option to add Cue Notes, Pitches used for Handbells, as well as many, many other useful tools that speed up our workflow in Finale 2010. Again, this is a great Plug-in. While it may not be useful for everyone, I do suggest that you take the time to check out the website for TG Tools and see if the full package is going to be a useful AddOn for you in your work.
