Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, we'll take an overview look at the settings for Web Publishing engine management and we'll also look at the same settings for ODBC and JDBC. You'll remember in the previous movie that we looked at the settings as they applied to the database server and there are some common configurations that are applicable both to the database server and to the Web Publishing Engine. For example, we have the same overview of FileMaker Server when we're looking at the Web Publishing Engine that we do when we're looking at the database engine and of course, the first thing we check is in the upper left-hand corner, the status of the database server and the Web Publishing Engine. Both are running again because the start icons are dimmed and the stop icons are active. So let's take a look then at what happens when we look in the configuration area. We see that we have an entire area here in the lower part of the screen related to Web Publishing and to ODBC and from this overview, as was the case with the database server, we can take a quick trip to any one of these particular settings. But looking at the Web Publishing Engine, we see that we have the general settings for the Web Publishing Engine, including logging access, the Web Publishing session limits, the number of connections that are allowed to Web Publishing. We then also have specific tabs for the different types of Web Publishing, including PHP using the new FileMaker PHP API or in certain instances, other PHP classes. We have the XML, which is not just for Web Publishing, but is to enable XML connections to hosted FileMaker databases by any type of application that can consume raw XML. We have also the XSLT settings, which deal with the use of server-side style sheets to transform data that comes from XML for use with Web pages, small form factor devices, such as a BlackBerry or the Apple telephone and other types of web accessible solutions. We also have the Instant Web Publishing, which requires FileMaker Server 9 Advanced and there are a number of configurations that can be set for Instant Web Publishing, including the language to be used, session timeouts and related information and we'll explore all of these settings in greater detail in subsequent movies. We also have the setting to enable ODBC and JDBC and as I think has been noted before, these settings are for use in FileMaker Server 9 Advanced when FileMaker Pro itself is the source of the data. If we are using the new external sequel sources function in FileMaker 9 or FileMaker Server 9, we do not have to have this particular feature enabled. This feature is for ODBC connectivity where FileMaker is the source of the data, whereas the external sequel source is, as the name implies, is for use when some other application is the source of the data. So to review briefly what we've learned in this movie about these particular settings, we've learned that the Web Publishing Engine has the same general overview screens as the database server. We've learned that the Web Publishing Engine has specific settings for PHP, for XML, for XSLT and for Instant Web Publishing and that the XML setting is not just for access by web browsers. We've also learned that the settings here can be enabled for the use of ODBC and JDBC and that Instant Web Publishing in ODBC and JDBC require FileMaker Server 9 Advanced. And last but far from least, we've been reminded to always check the status of the database server and the Web Publishing Engine when accessing the console. far from least, we've been reminded to always check the status of the database server and the Web Publishing Engine when accessing the console.
