New In Version 9 / Uniform Administration Console pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

We can take a look also at the overview of the administration page and from this overview we can quickly access parts of the console necessary for clients, databases, statistics or schedules. We also have a configuration overview page for the server where we can set the various options in the server including the license information, email notification, behavior of the console itself, auto-start settings. These are important and I'll be recommending throughout this series of movies that you do not, do not set the server to start automatically. If the server should quit unexpectedly, you want to be able to examine the files for continued integrity before they are launched again. We also have settings as you can see for client, idle time, hosted files, security, plug-ins and a number of other options, as well as the Web Publishing options. So as you go through these, you see the general information. Here we have no clients connected. Here we're showing a couple of test databases that are being deployed on this server. Here we have the schedules which include the backups and the running of scripts and the sending of messages. If we select to run a script, we have the option of running either a ScriptMaker script in the FileMaker database that's hosted or a system-level script, such as an Apple shell script, a VB script or something of the like. So we'll exit from the schedule assistant. Here we have also the panel for statistics for such things as the cache, the disk kilobytes per second, the IO time call, remote calls, wait time, other information about the behavior of the system on the network. We also, under the configurations, then have the general settings including the server information, the console and here is, as I mentioned, the Auto-Start and you'll note that both of these are unchecked. We have the database server where we set the idle timeout, items related to the clients, items related to the database, security options, logging, server-side plug-ins and so forth and in the Web Publishing area, we have general settings as well as the settings for the new PHP capabilities, for XML, for both web browsers and other applications that can consume XML from FileMaker, style sheets using XSLT to transform data for viewing in a wide variety of devices and applications ranging from the BlackBerry to the Apple telephone to a standard web page and other similar items, as well as the Instant Web Publishing. And we also have the settings for enabling FileMaker Server to provide connectivity for inbound queries with ODBC and JDBC from other applications that can consume that data, such as spreadsheets, word processors, reporting tools and the like. So to review, just briefly, we've introduced the new FileMaker Uniform Admin Console , which runs on both the Macintosh and Windows platform. Here obviously we're viewing it on Macintosh. We've talked about some of the things that it does and we've talked about several ways in which we can start and launch this particular application, which we use to administer the server. :32] about several ways in which we can start and launch this particular application, which we use to administer the server.
