Continuing with a list of New Features that we have in FileMaker Server 12, we now have a much speedier web publishing. The Web Publishing Engine in FileMaker Server 12 has been completely re-written and is now faster than ever. Especially the ability to handle multiple data requests at the same time and combined with a more efficient memory processing makes that we should see a nice performance boost. The biggest benefit of having 64-bit support is the ability to have a larger cache which is important if you are hosting many files or have large amounts of data in your files. And if you have many clients of course. FileMaker Server 12 is able to address more requests from memory on a 64-bit system with plenty of RAM. The next feature is one that is no longer there. What we're looking at is is a screenshot from the FileMaker Server 11 Admin Console. And note the second checkbox that is labeled, Let Users Automatically Download Updates. Now that means Plug-in updates. Using this feature you could configure FileMaker Server to store new versions of your Plug-ins. And then use scripts in your solution to check the local version on the workstation and the server version and pull a new version from the server. Well that is gone, installing Plug-ins now does not involve the server anymore. It can all be done and handled through scripts and storing the Plug-ins, the New Versions in Containers.
