In this video, we will show you how to get started with sharing a FileMaker File with FileMaker Server. First of all you will need a working copy of FileMaker Server or FileMaker Server Advanced which we have done in the previous movies. For what we are showing in this video it does not matter what version you have. And here we have our Windows Server 2008 running FileMaker Server 12 and as you can see you know currently only hosting the sample file that is installed by default when you install FileMaker Server. So back to our workstation, I have this Contact Management System that I have developed for my own use and now I want to share that with my team members. And I truly love the Enhanced Container Feature in FileMaker 12 so I have it configured so that whatever shows up in my Container here is actually saved outside of the FileMaker File. And you can see that in the Finder this is where FileMaker Pro actually saves my files, right here. So the Container Data is saved outside of FileMaker File. So how do I go about sharing the solution through FileMaker Server? Well there is some confidential information in my solution so I want to make sure that not everyone can get into this file. So I am going to turn off the Automatic Login behavior that every new FileMaker file has. And we can find that here under File Options. Every new FileMaker File is set to automatically login with the admin account so we're going to turn that off. With this turned off FileMaker will now always prompt a user to enter a valid username and password. So I need to make sure that everyone that needs to use this file has one of those accounts. And we can do that under Manage Security. As you can see I have set up a few accounts already in addition to the Defaults Admin Accounts. Remember that the username and password gets you through the door, it lets you open the file but it is the Privilege Sets that dictates what you can do in the file. So it is here in the Privilege Sets that we need to allow access to the hosted file. Let's go ahead and edit the Full Access Privilege first. Here in the lower left corner we see a section labeled Extended Privileges and it has an entry named Access Via Your FileMaker Network. That is the one that needs to be toggled on to allow access to the file across the network once the file is hosted on FileMaker Server. And we need to do this for all Privilege Sets associated with accounts for users that need to access this file. So to make life easy we can go to the third tab, Extended Privileges. Select the FM App bit and then toggle it on for the Privilege Sets that we need it to. With this done we can now move our solution to the FileMaker Server and by far the easiest way of doing that is to use the Upload Feature of the FileMaker Server Admin Console. So let's go ahead and close our Solution File here on the workstation and launch the Admin Console. You can launch the Admin Console by going to a browser and specifying as URL the name or IP address of your FileMaker Server and Port 16,000. If you are using Safari you can also find it through Bonjour if your server is running Bonjour and then find it right here.
