One of the things that FileMaker Server or Server Advanced do not provide natively is failover protection. If you host your files on a FileMaker Server, you cannot have a second FileMaker Server sitting next to it, hosting the same files and keeping the data in both sets of files synchronized. There's also no way to load balance more than one FileMaker Server natively. So, for instance, if you project a very busy environment, you would want to have the same files hosted on multiple servers and when one of those servers gets to a certain load point, that some of the client connections, be it FileMaker Pro, ODBC, XML, anything like that, would automatically go over to the second machine in the same FileMaker Server forum. So all of that is not available with FileMaker Server or Server Advanced, but there are ways to do the same thing. One of them is by the products from WorldSync, more specifically the product called Syncdek. With Syncdek, you can synchronize FileMaker data that is hosted on more than one FileMaker Server and, with that, you can achieve failover protection. You can also just use it, for instance, to have the same sets of data available in different parts of the world and let people connect to whatever FileMaker Server is closest. So you can use it to synchronize data between more than one FileMaker Server deployment. It is certainly worth checking it out if you have that need.
