Subtitles of the Movie

[00:00:00.0] Let's go back here, updated Avery labels, well they've updated the Avery labels inside of the new layout report. So enough said, really that's no new Avery labels just updated. Enhanced tab control, ok very easy to explain, just a few enhancements to that feature that was available in previous versions. We'll go out into Layout Mode. We'll double click on the web viewer and you can see we now have an option for the default front tab. Before it was based on which one was last selected in Layout Mode. That will be the one that was available when you came to that layout. So in this case if I had notes selected in Layout Mode every time I went to it in Browse Mode if I switch to another layout then back, notes would be available. Well, now you can set it so that it's always the same no matter what you last selected, very, very handy. And then you have some options as far as tab width, label width plus margin of. Ok you can put in pixels, or inches or anything, width of wise label, minimum of, fixed width of; there's a lot of options here. And you can play around with these to see how they work and find out what works best for you, but really nice little additions to the tab control feature. Ok, so we'll go back to our slides here, enhanced web viewer, and you've seen that going on in the background of the example file. Let's really take a look at it this time. And I'm going to get it to redraw because that's where all the stuff really happens. So I'm going to go into Layout Mode and then quickly back into Browse Mode. You'll see right down here you have all that information about the progress bar, about the URL that was loading. You could even get a SSL Lock here. And if we go into Layout Mode again, and double click on it, you'll see that you have these extra options: Display Progress Bar if you want and Display Status Messages. So these are neat little features that have been added. So go back to Browse Mode here. See them happen again. So you have Progress Bar, Status Message, SSL Lock icon and URL Display. A new quick start screen; this basically is the same when you go to create a new database, that quick start screen, which we're going to go over in the next tutorial anyhow. So let's not cover it now. But it includes the learning center, which is a new help section and even recent files. So it's really be overhauled and I think it's pretty nice. Learn buttons; well let's take a look at that. You had Learn buttons before, like if we go to the Print dialog. We'll see that you have this question mark here. That takes you to help. Well now you have Learn buttons that give you additional information, more detailed information. In fact, it will take you even to the Learning Center on the FileMaker.com website. You might find that for instance inside of Define Database. There we go. And if we had a calculation here: we can create a new one. You'll see that you now have this learn option. And it really takes you to the same help Screen but in that Help screen under the Online Help you'll have a connection up to the Learning Center where there's a lot more information on it. Enhanced Help menu. Well the enhanced Help menu is great because it had direct access to product documentation. People sometimes don't even know their there. So if you go up to Help you'll see product documentation; Users guide tutorial, all that great stuff in PDF format; software update notification. You can see downloads and updates. That means go out and check if there's any updater to go up to the next version of FileMaker 9. Obviously there's not right now at this moment of recording this tutorial but there might be in the future. And you check just by selecting that. You can also set up preferences. So if we go into our Preferences section, we can see that we can check to automatically check every seven days. Multiple undo and redo of text and make sure your clear that this is just text, ok. Be clear also that it requires you to move your curser within the same field or text block for it to work. So let me demonstrate what that is. So let's say we're inside here. In fact, let's go to our Notes section here. And if I enter some notes, like this. Hit a couple of returns, type some more and do an undo typing. You see that all goes away in the can't undo it but you can redo it. The key here though is moving your curser with the arrow key on the keyboard or with the curser and then typing some more. And that's when you get the multiple undo. So we can undo the typing and then undo the typing again. Same thing happens in a text block, works exactly the same way when you're in Layout Mode using a text block. However, once you exit out of the field the undo is not there anymore. So it's only on a field-by-field basis. Ok. Field Level Control the Visual Spellchecker, great, great feature. I've always wanted to turn it off on certain features because it can get kind of annoying; so real simple to set up. We'll go back to our example. Go to Layout Mode and we'll choose a field and we'll come in there and we'll choose Field Control Behavior. And you see do not apply visual spell checking; great little feature so you don't have to see that on fields that you really don't want that to occur on.
