Finally for completeness let's look at the last three categories of functions. First they are trigonometric functions. These are same trigonometric functions you can find in spreadsheets, programming languages and other databases. Then we have two FileMaker's specific types of functions. The external functions are functions in plug-in's.If you have a plug-in that provides functions here is where you will find those functions. And we are not going to talk about plug-in in this tutorial because it's beyond its scope. We also have custom functions. These two may or may not be there .A custom function is a function that has been created using FileMaker developer and stored inside a database, not inside a table inside a database. Then if you open that database file with FileMaker itself or with FileMaker developer, you will see whatever custom functions have been created using FileMaker developer and you will be able use them just as you use any other functions that you use in FileMaker. So the custom functions as well as the external functions appear there if you have the plug-in installed for the external functions. And in the case of custom functions if you have created a custom function using FileMaker developer and stored it in this specific database file. To use the custom function you do not need to be running FileMaker developer.
