Printing and Presenting Data in Preview Mode / Using the Status Area
Subtitles of the Movie
Let's took a look at printing in file maker. Now when you print in file maker whether you do it explicitly or not you will be going into what is called preview mode. I am going to run a script right now on a database that I have constructed and that I use later in the tutorial and this script is going to produce a printing report and what it is going to do is drop me into preview mode you ***** preview down here and preview up here and what you got here is the layout of a page you can see the margins here and this is what will be printed if I scroll up and down what you are seeing and perhaps ill just zoom out a bit you can see that I have one page per screen. If I use the book to go to the next page I will see the next page of the report and so forth. When I am in browse mode the book lets me go from record to record. In find mode it lets me go from request to request. In preview mode it lets me go from page to page and just as I can do otherwise I can type in the page number I want go to and go to that page directly. Now when I am in preview mode if I have not gone to the end of the book it will not tell me how many pages there are. I am going to go out of that script and run it again and you will see that at the moment it says I am on page one of an unknown number of pages. What I tend to do when I wondering through pages in preview mode is to immediately go to the end because that will force file maker to compute the number of pages. So here I have five pages out of five and I can go from one to the other. Most of the time you do a spot check of what's going to be printed and then you printed directly or you can simply go up to the print command in the file menu and choose were you want to print any special file maker options that you want and when you click print file maker will go into preview mode in order to produce that report. Now a variety of things happened when you go into preview mode in addition to just coming up with the borders of the page and some of them you can control that's moving and sliding of fields which I am going talk about.
