In layout mode the last item in the format menu that I am going to talk about is the format painter. Format painter is a very simple way of modifying fields based on the prototype that you have created. You have seen that you can select a field and then select a command in the format menu to edit that field. You can also select no field, I am clicking in the background and then format how number field or text field or whatever will be formatted as you create new ones. But you can go one step further and come into a field, select it make modifications to it. I am going to enlarge the text, I am going to make it dark Green, I am going to centre it, I have made a number of changes here With this field selected I can choose format painter notice how the pointer has changed to a paint brush. I can now click on another field and the settings that I have chosen for the first field will be applied to the other field. Now, even though the other field is of different type, this is a date field, this is a text field, I will go back to browse mode, you will see that I have not lost the date format, but I have picked up things such as the color, the font size and the font itself. One way in which you can use this very easily is, I will come back into layout mode, and I am going to ungroup the elements of the portal and I am going to select these 2, I hold down the shift key, I will make a group out of them, I am going to go here and I am going to format this, I am just going to change the color to that same Green and, select these 2 grouped fields. When I click on them, I have applied those settings to the 2 grouped fields. Now, mind you could have done the same things simply by selecting all 3 of those fields. And, I will come here and ungroup these to the same thing, I can select all 3 without moving them. And, do the same thing, but I want to demonstrate how I could pick up and apply something to group fields. So, it is very convenient to group a whole bunch of fields together, simply for the purpose of allowing them to receive a format painter. I will go back to the customers table For example this is the default layout of the customers table or let me choose line items which has many more objects in it. I am going to select all, group them come over here to invoice layout, I am going to come over here choose format painter, I have now come ** Paint Brush, I can go to another layout. And, here everything is grouped, and I will come down here and click on one element of the group and everything in the group has now been modified with that new color and font and I can now immediately ungroup them. The very very quick way of applying formatting.
