Introducing FileMaker 7 / Starter Solutions
Subtitles of the Movie
When you choose new database you will see the variety of templates that are available in FileMaker seven. They are in various categories business education and home, some of the templates are more than one categories contact management for example is in home as well as in education as well as in business . You can use these templates to create starter solutions right out of the box that may be or you need to do with the FileMaker. You just create the starter solution that you want and add your data to that. The solution are varied and they provide great deal of functionality here is just few of them, contact management lets you organize the people with you deal with including their address. You can create a budget for your self for your home for schools you can create emergencies cards for students, You can create to do list for your self you can organize your photos, you can organize your research notes. As you are looking at these various windows that I am browsing through, you will see the that templates have a common look to them, there is a tool bar area up here with tabs that let you go to various ways of viewing the data. There is an icon to create new record to delete a record and to find data. All of the templates have more or less the same lay out some of them may have additional lay out that you can view in what's called preview mode you can print them, and as you see if I enlarge this window that what I am seeing here is the size and shape of the piece of paper. Let me get out of here and continue here because the standard views the once shown here at the tabs are designs to be looked at on the screen. Up here you will find views that are designed for printing. As I browse through these various starter solutions, you will see not just the common look and feel to them but the other aspects of them are common. For example here in addition to the different layouts that you can see for the data, there are some tabs down here that further refine the information that shown by using tabs what FileMaker is able to do is to put a great deal of information on the screen, so within this one layout I have three times as much space down here because different information is displayed here depending on the lower tabs. You can modify the starter solution you can go into the define database dialogue and you will can see that you can add additional tables, fields. If you want something to behave some what differently as you will see in this tutorial you will be able to modify the database, the tables, the fields, or the relationships. So the starter solutions which you access through new databases from the file menu are very good way of getting started with FileMaker for learning about it, and for creating solutions that you can use with or without your customization
