Subtitles of the Movie
Let's have a quick of overview of FileMaker. I am going to walk through the basic functionality of FileMaker, which I can describe in very brief period of time it is very simple to use. I welcome back to all of the items that I am talking about in this section and going them in detail. But for now here is an overview of FileMaker so you can be familiar with what you are looking at in FileMaker windows. First of all there are two parts to FileMaker windows and I can control them here with this icon at the bottom. as I switch back and forth you can see the status area at the left is shown or hidden. now lets take a look at status area so that you can see what happens here. At the top of four icons that you switch among the four most that the FileMaker has. I can also switch among those most using the view menu. Browse mode is the mode you use to view data and to enter data. Find mode lets you search for data and when I go in to find mode you will see that, I have a lay out that is sort of similar to the lay out that I had for entering data accept that there is no data in it. It's blank also I have button over here find so I can type something such as desk, and click the find button and I will have found the entries that have the word desk in that field. That's find mode. Lay out mode lets me design the lay out, I can modify where field to be located I can add new fields to lay out I can attach functionality to fields I can select the field. For example and make it a button to execute the script. Preview mode is used to display data as it will be printed. If you notice here I am going to zoom this window search for obvious. If you notice here what I have is a lay out that is displayed as it were on a piece of paper ready for printing. So those were the four modes. Preview mode shows you data as will be printed, lay out mode lets you design data, find mode lets you search for data, and browse mode lets you enter and view data. Here I have a book I can move forward or backwards in using the book icon, and I can also slide if I have more than one record and I am going to show all the records here and I can slide from one record to next using the slider here. In browse mode the book takes me from one record to the next, In find mode it takes me to find request to the next I can have multiple find request that are used together to find data. In lay out mode the book takes me from one lay out to the next I can have a variety of different lay outs to use to display data in my database and in preview mode the book will take me from one page to the next. So the same basic interface lets me work with, different types of data record request, pages or lay outs in different modes. The pop up menu here for layouts lets me choose from among the layouts. In the browse mode it's the layouts that I am going to display data in. In lay out mode it's the layout that I am going to modify. I also have in each mode information down here that gives me information about one I am viewing and that changes as you see from mode to mode. Different types of information are displayed at the bottom in different modes that I will go through each of these in turn. That's what happens in the status area. Now I wanted to look at the menu bar as I switch modes, and what you will see is that the basic FileMaker menus. Look here at these up through format those menus are basically the same as I go from mode to mode. However starting here with the records menu as I go from mode to mode, the records menu changes name depending on the mode that I am here and in browse mode the records menu lets me manipulated records, In find mode the request menu that been manipulated the find request, in lay out mode the layout menu that's been modify layouts and in preview mode the records menu again lets been modify the data I am looking at. Those are the basic FileMaker menus and the basic menus file menu contains most of the commands that you familiar within most of the applications, the edit menu again is common to most of the applications. The view menu is a specific FileMaker menu and it changes depending on which mode your in but the first four items are control the modes that you viewing insert and format work with specific types of fields to let you insert data and to format text or other data and that believe it or not is the overview of FileMaker, in those few minutes I have shown you all of the basic tools that you will be using with the FileMaker. Now it is time to look after in detail.
