Entering Data in Browse Mode / Using the Browse Mode View Menu
Subtitles of the Movie
I am going to show you how to use the view menu to look at different aspects of the database that you are working on. The top part of the view menu is the same for all four modes lets you switch among the other modes I been looking at this database as a form. I can also look at it as a list, now this appears to be the same except as I move up, If I enlarge the window you will see that infact I have these listed this records stacked one on top of the other and I can scroll through them. When I am in form mode I have no scroll bar here and I go from one record to the next but I am not scrolling the window , where is in of listing out of view I can scroll up and down in the window for a layout that is smaller than this, this can be a big savings because you are looking several records at the same time in the window. Now I can also look at this view as a table and this look very much like a spread sheet that what is design to look like and there is some options in setting up tables some times you can sort the records based on clicking on the top of the field, if you notice I am alphabetizing records based on first name now I am alphabetizing based on last name I can select a record , notice there is a little bar here that shows me the record that select it. If I now go to the form their I am looking at this record in list mode and here I am looking at it as a form. Now I can also look at the various layouts that designed by the database designer and I can use them in the layouts menu I can also come over here and use buttons that the designer has added to the layout so that I can go to various layouts. Now what you seeing here is that the designer has gone one better to the default values in the viewers table viewers foremen viewers list commands in the view menu. This is a new layout called table view that has additional buttons up here. If I go back to the original view which is the layout called the form view. If I view it as a table what file maker does is to take that data and displayed as a table. If I go to what the database designer has created as a table view I can look at as a table and I have , it's very different much more fully featured than just the default form view viewed as a table. So to recap the view menu lets you take a single layout and view it as a form list or a table. The layout menu lets you look at the various labels that the database designer has created and in individual layout may have buttons that lets you move from one layout to another. So here what I am doing in the view menu is keeping one layout and having file maker manipulate that layout to change it so it's view as a list or as a table . But I am still looking at the form view which is what the database designer has created and I will go back and view as it form.
