FileMaker is a terrific product, I have used it for many many years in versions going back actually to FileMaker_1. And what FileMaker has manage to do in FileMaker_7 is to give us something that is as powerful as almost any database that I have worked with, and I have worked with some of the biggest databases on mainframes. It's also as easy to use as any database there is. And file making development tool which I am going to talk about in this tutorial I think will make your life very easy. One of the things that I want to stress to you about FileMaker is that it is so much more than a database because it includes these tools that help you create fore solutions. People call me all the time to do database projects, and I am used to the conversations now. 0:01:07.0] Some one will call and say I need a database that helps me track appointments or clients, 0:01:13.9] and I listen carefully and we start talking and they say the reason I cant use something off the shelf is that the way I organize my data really matters to me and nothing really handles at the way I think about it . And what happens as you go down this path is you realize that someone is thinking about a database to keep track of phone numbers or addresses or clients. But in fact as they start talking about what they want to do with the data and why an off the shop products is right for them, It becomes very clear that what they want to do is to create a FileMaker solution that helps in run their business. It's not their phone numbers, its keeping track of the people and organizing the information in the way that they want to do so and in the way that make their business distinct. As a consultant I love dealing with these projects because what it means is that every month or so I meet new people employed in totally new business. I have learnt so many businesses in my life every thing from central banking to all sorts of publishing. So that's what I am interested in people and their information needs and how I can help them organize it. FileMaker is the most effective tool that I have ever encountered for that type of work.
