We will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on May 20th, 2013 at 02:00 GMT.
Let's talk about the intermediate tutorial. We're going to continue on with the contact solution by expanding it to an invoicing solution. We're going to cover Interface Design, relationships, that's one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-many relationships, join tables. We're going to finally talk about table occurrences, security which is very important, record locking which is a multi-user issue, you need to know about that. Custom Functions which are in FileMaker Advanced only, Recursive Custom Functions or Calculations. Finding overdue invoices, it's more of a technique than a feature in FileMaker. We'll talk about the Script Debugger, the DDR or Database Design Report, plug-ins. Another technique called Deleting Duplicates, in general Dynamic Scripting is very important and Advanced Validations. So a lot will be covered in that intermediate section that will really help you understand FileMaker better. Now in the advanced section, we're going to finish the invoicing solution, well you know, you never finish a solution in my opinion, but we'll get to a point where you have just about every feature you want and we'll do that by tackling Advanced Techniques, such as what I like to call the Ultimate Find. Back and Forward Buttons, much like you'd find in a web browser, saving a Found Set, a Recursive Phone Filter, that's pretty cool stuff right there. Custom Form Letters, it's different than your regular Form Letters in FileMaker, you'll find out those. Text Style manipulation, new requests made easier, Cross-Tab Reports, Filtered Portals, Script Triggers, Change Logs and even Deployment considerations. So there's a lot covered in here, you'll find out a ton and it's, it is definitely the hardest section, the hardest tutorial, but if you get through the beginner and intermediate, even if you don't understand everything advanced, it will help plant seeds in your head and, and get you going. So let's talk about what version of FileMaker we're going to be using. We're going to be using FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced exclusively. Okay. Every time you see it, it's going to be 00:02:12 ] FileMaker Pro Advanced, you're going to see it right up here. That doesn't mean you have to have FileMaker 12 Advanced to get through these tutorials. As I said before, FileMaker 12 Advanced has features that just makes things easier, there are a couple of situations where you'll need like, if you're trying to do Custom Menus. Yeah, you don't need Custom Menus for a solution but you can't create Custom Menus without FileMaker 12 Advanced. FileMaker Pro 12 users can see the Custom Menus and, and the fruit of your work but FileMaker Pro 12 people can't create Custom Menus. But most of that is not true, it just makes things a little bit harder, like you'll see you need copy and pasting fields a lot. Well, if you don't have FileMaker 12 Advanced, you can't do that, but you can still do what I'm doing which is make the same field over in here, you just have to do it manually with the regular FileMaker Pro 12. So whenever we need, require FileMaker 12 Advanced, it will be noted. Now let's talk about previous versions of FileMaker, 7, 8, 8.5, 9, 10 and 11. Now FileMaker Pro 12 and 12 Advanced have a new file format, it's the .fmp12, you can see it right here. Used to be .FP7, so the file format has changed, so you can't create a file in FileMaker 12 and take it to earlier versions like you could with all these versions here, they were interchangeable. The only difference between these versions 7 through 11 was that if you made something with an 11 feature, you just wouldn't see it in 7, it wouldn't work but the files would exchange. You cannot exchange your FileMaker 12 file with 7 through 11, it's just not possible. But the techniques that you'll learn in FileMaker 12 will work with earlier versions and if they won't, if it's a new feature that's not available, we'll tell you about other options that are available for you. This is the most important part of this section, you need to build the contact manager and the invoices solution in the tutorial, don't just watch. Some people like to watch all the videos and then go ahead and come back and build it while they're watching it again. Some people want to pause and build, pause the tutorial and build as they're going. It's up to you but you do need to build it, it's going to really enable you to retain the techniques and be able to implement them. Don't skip around, build it, follow it in order and you'll have much more success. Because believe me, I've talked to a lot of people over the years who, you know they say I'm confused about this and I say, well did you watch this? Oh no, I didn't, I skipped that. So make sure you do follow it in order, watch everything, build everything, it'll really help out.
