Manage Database has two other tabs we briefly mentioned earlier but we want to discuss them more extensively now. We're not going to really talk about what they do as far as schema, as far as FileMaker's concerned, we're going to talk more about how to work with their dialogs. You won't learn about Tables and Relationships and what they actually mean to FileMaker until the intermediate tutorial. We'll plant a few seeds here about how they work but for the most part, I just want you to get familiar with the dialog so you know you understand how you can work with them. So we're going to move over to Tables and let's make a new table, just simply type in your table name and hit Create, it's that simple, just like creating a field. And you notice there's some details over here about this table. You have the Source, which is FileMaker in both cases, this will never change during these tutorials, the Source will always be FileMaker but you do have the option of ESS or in other words ODBC so you may see that as a Source Type here. We don't cover the ODBC in these tutorials but if you do eventually get into it that's when the source will change here. You also see the number of fields and records that you have in each of these tables. And then you have the Occurrences in Graph, that refers to the Relationships. Right now at the beginning we only have one occurrence for each one of these tables but you can have multiple occurrences for each table and that has to do with Relationships. You have multiple relationships from Contact to New Table, you will need multiple occurrences and that will make sense later as we get into Relationships. But for right now you'll probably see just one occurrence and that will refer to what you see over here in Relationships. Just these little boxes here that are your occurrences. They are kind of like aliases or shortcuts, they represent the table because if you hover over this, you'll see Source Table and you'll see Source Table over here as well. They really represent that table just like a shortcut represents the file as a shortcut or the application is a shortcut too but you can actually have multiple references to that Source Table which is these over here. So let's learn more about organizing this dialog and what you can do with it. Of course you can come in here and delete one of your tables if you want, very easy to do and we saw before that we checked this Also Remove Occurrences. This time we're not going to do it and see what happens. We'll go over to Relationships and you'll see that table, this table occurrence here is, is tied into that table. It doesn't exist really without it so it doesn't make sense to delete the table and not the table occurrence. Well there are a few instances where it makes sense but for right now we're just going to go ahead and delete this as well. Just click on it, hit the Delete Key and then it's gone. So we'll come back in here and Create New Table 2 and realize that you can obviously change this by changing the name and hitting the Change Button. You can copy and paste the tables as we've shown before. We can import a table from another file and we can print whatever we want to. We can select one or multiple tables and print just like we did in Manage Database or I'm sorry in Manage Fields. Now you also have the ability to sort, you see how we can click multiple times in here and Sort Ascending, Descending. That refers also to this which you can View your Tables in Creation Order or Alphabetical Order or a Custom Order. But these don't do anything as far as sorting up here, you can't sort by them. So that's about all there is inside of this dialog to know how to work with this. It's a little more complex than fields because you have a lot more things you can do with the fields. Tables is, is fairly basic but relationships get really complicated. See all these options you have down here, this is the most complicated section I think of all. So probably the most complicated is relationships, then fields, then tables but we're not going to learn about relationships until later, just worry about fields but just kind of get an idea of what's going on in here. What these are, these are references to your tables, if you can remember that and understand that, then when you get to the section where we have to draw relationship lines between them and create you know related fields and related records and all that kind of good stuff, then you'll have a better idea that these are just references back to these tables. That's all I really need you to know and, and of course how to work with this dialog so you can make more efficiently, more efficiently create your tables and, and rearrange them and all that kind of good stuff.
