You can control the order in which you tab through the fields. What I mean by that is when you hit the Tab Key on the keyboard and you tab from field to field, you can control that. FileMaker does a pretty good job of keeping up with a reasonable tab order for you but if you want to change it to your particular needs, especially if you don't have fields all in one straight column, maybe you have fields all over the place, you need to design which way the tab order goes. So we're going to show you how to do that. It's actually quite easy. We'll go into Layout Mode and we'll go in here and from the Layouts Menu choose Set Tab Order. Very simple, you don't even have to use this little dialog that came up. We can just come over here and decide that I want this to be the first one in the tab order and as soon as you click out of it, it swaps them. I probably want Company to be first so I'll swap it back. You can also come and take fields out of the tab order just simply by deleting them. Now it won't tab to Category at all. And also realize that the tab order goes through all these tabs and you'll see that when we go through these, that for some reason they don't go in order. Well, we can correct that. We wanted 23; we want this to be 24 probably. This one should be 25 and then that one should be 26 now. And that happened because the chart was higher than the media field and the Google was lower than all of those so it does it based on top to bottom, left to right, how FileMaker automatically puts fields in the tab order for you. So realizing that might help it make sense for you. Now, if you don't want to go through and type them in, you can also use a dialog but also realize you can put tab into your tab order and buttons if you want to and that's especially helpful on Windows when you can tab to a button and use a keyboard command to launch that button, what it does as far as a script. But there's also options here that you can do such as Add. You can add all the objects to the tab order, Fields Only or Buttons Only. So it might be nice. For me, since I don't really want my buttons, as you can see I don't have any buttons in the tab order, if you want to have just the fields only, choose that and hit Add and then they'll all be added and then you can more easily go through and say well, I want to switch this one with that. It's just a quick way of putting everything into the tab order for you. Then you can also remove all fields or all buttons if you want and for me, I would want to go ahead and remove all buttons. That would generally be what I do. Or you can clear everything and start from scratch if you want. It all depends on what you want to do. I'm going to actually go ahead and not make any of these changes. Actually to make this add all of them you have to hit that button and to remove you'd have to hit the Remove Button. So clicking OK is going to preserve the tab order I have right now. So again, the key here is it's not difficult to do but you don't want to do the tab order over and over and over and over again so wait until the end of your project til you've got the fields just where you want them and then go ahead and figure out the tab order and that way you won't have to do it more than once.
