Relationships / Completing the Interface pt. 2

So we'll switch over to Invoices form and see what we've got there. We'll go into Browse Mode and you'll see we've taken off one of the tabs. We just have Form and List, and they both work. We actually made our List View here. We duplicated our Customers list and changed all the fields, such as, you know, these fields down here and we changed this right here, so I'm going to change all the labels. Pretty easy, once you have the layout done, to duplicate it, change where you're showing records from, and just change some of the fields. It makes it very easy to do that. Also in here we've changed this. In fact, we didn't quite get to this one, so we'll do it real quick. We changed this to, and we're going to double click on this. This is going to be Add Invoice and it's going to be Delete Invoice, and right now we don't have a Print, so we're going to come in here and double click on this and say do nothing, and switch it to unknown. There we go. So that's the benefit here. If we double click on this, notice the new record is dependent on your context and your context is what layout am I on? What is this layout showing records from? So this is showing records from invoices. This new record button will create a new record in Invoices. Same with Find, same with Delete. They know where they're at. This is one of the benefits of putting everything into one file, because then you can reuse these scripts and make it very easy to work with. Then you also see we've added this line down here. We added Invoice Number, then the invoice we have actually right now shows sample data turned On, so we'll turn that off. So Invoice Number, KP Invoice ID. We have the date post and it's partially covered up by that field where you can type in your date post. Then we have our status field that obviously has the status dropdown list on it, and then we have our Go To Field, which we've done before, so we can pop that up. So we've added all that interface in there and actually I'm noticing that it's not quite the way I want it to be. I'd rather mov this down a little bit, so I'm going to go in here and select everything here, deselect this item here and move it down a little bit, get it nice and even with this button right here. I think what I'll do is I'll just draw a little selection here. That looks good. That looks good. So that's right where I want it to be and we've obviously gone through and entered some date posteds because auto enters don't go back to previous records and put the date posted in there, and we've done the same with status and made all of them Billed. So there's not a lot of work here to do. It's just a lot of details, takes up a lot of time, and then we'll switch to our Products form and you can see how it has the tabs all corrected here. We've put on here, in Layout Mode, the right fields here, the price and the name, change this right here, go back to this layout. You can see we've changed it to add product, delete product, and unknown. If we keep going through here, we'll see that we have the section divider, then lines, and we made a mistake here too. We don't really want this here. We'll get rid of that. Simple as that to make the change. We've added all this stuff, changed the names here, but it's really not that much work. It's just a lot of details. Then we have our zip codes and we, again, done need a List View or Notes for zip codes, so I'll take that out, change all this stuff, and we actually have to come in here and put in the information we want. We don't want information because I duplicated this from our Lines here. We don't want all this information. I'm going to take two of them away, double click on this one, go to Zips and we're going to choose city, come down here, choose state, and then we actually need one more here, so we'll duplicate this, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and then move it down, and as you can see, I missed one of these graphic elements. You've got to be observant about this stuff. So we'll duplicate that, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, move it right on top of there, double click on that, make that Zip, and then we'll change the labels, so you see how easyÉit's just busy work, really, and a lot of your database work will be that and you have to make sure you get these things right. So there we go, we've got all that stuff in there, so that's basically all you have to do, just go through and update these things. In fact, we're seeing here that we have no found here, so what we'd have to do is go to Manage Database, come over to some other table that has it, copy that, come over to Zips, paste. The Found's in there now. Now we have to go into Layout Mode. We'll double click on this, edit something in here, just take the N out of Found, type it back in, and that should fix everything. It should now be displaying how many records there are. So, you know, it's just about all these details. You can see how I've forgotten some. You might forget some as well and you've got to really scour this thing and make sure it looks good.
