Interface Design / Finishing Touches pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

And now the last thing we're going to do is we're going to add our buttons for moving back and forth between the different records, as well as our status area that we recreated so we don't have to show the status area up here. So we're going to grab that for our invoice solution, just like we did before and again, you don't have access to this invoice solution, but you can go to the end, the Work Files and find the finished version of this Contact Manager, which is what it is right now, it's called Contacts and grab these from there. So we'll go into Layout Mode. I'll just simply select these, copy them to the Clipboard and make note of where they are; 560 57. So we'll hide this window, we'll paste, show the object info, 560 tab 57 tab and now they're in exactly the same spot. And we even have the word Customer here, so that's perfect and let's see how it worked out. We'll go to Browse Mode and test it out and you can see the found didn't work here. Let's see if the buttons did. So they seem to be working and the record number's updating. Let's find out what happened here. Let's double click in here and you can see that this has been made a smaller font so we're going to go ahead and make this a size bigger. We're going to change it back to 10 point, which is what I think it is and there we go. Let's see how that works. Nah, it's still not working. I think what we need to do is double check that in Manage Database that we have the same name field. And it looks like we do. And sometimes this happens. What you have to do is real simple. Just come in here, modify this, just take the U our or something, put it back in and that should fix things. And that didn't fix it. So let's try going back into Layout Mode. We'll fiddle with this some more. I'm just going to reinsert it. I'll delete it and we'll insert our merge field, go find the found field and then go to Browse Mode. There we go. And it's still not showing up for some reason. Let's see. This is an interesting problem here. It wasn't expected for me to see but let's see if we can solve it here in a reasonable amount of time. Let's go back into Layout Mode and what I think I'm going to do is I've tried just about everything so I'm going to go ahead and make a new one. Customer and then we'll put in at sign at sign instead of me using the Insert Menu of and then we'll insert the merge field and we'll choose found and then we'll go to Browse Mode and see what happens here. That one worked so I don't know what the problem is. Something there's different about, you know, the other version versus this but I'm just going to take this out, make the text black here and then center it right in there. Now, the way I'm going to center it is by dragging it to this edge, dragging it to this edge and then go to Format, Align Text, Center and that should work pretty good. We'll go back to Browse Mode and I'm pretty happy with that, although I'm going to try it a little bit bigger. Let's try it one point size bigger. Try 11 and I think that needs to go down one pixel now. Let's see what that looks like. That to me looks a lot better. I'm very happy with that. In fact, I might go to 11 point on the; you know what it is, again, we have the same problem. This is now in Helvetica, so let's change it back to Verdana. There's Verdana and now we can go back down to 10 point. So sometimes even I make mistakes. And you know what I'm thinking; this is done in Helvetica also. So we're going to go and change but we're going to fix this so we don't ever get Helvetica again and don't make this mistake. So we'll go into Verdana. There we go. I'm going to Command Click on a field that I know is Verdana and now it's set the default. So we won't have to worry about that. This probably is in Verdana. Good. Everything else is in Verdana. So it looks pretty good. Let's go to Browse Mode and double check our interface. And zoom that up. This looks pretty good. This looks pretty good. Everything looks pretty good. I'm happy with the way it looks right now so we'll stop there and well, actually I'll do one little thing. I'll move these up a pixel. I don't like the centers hitting that. So we'll go into Layout Mode, move these two up one pixel, maybe two. There you go. Much better. So it's all about getting it just right, making it look really good and all those details do matter.
