Acrobat and More. While there are a number of open source alternatives, newer Linux users may be comforted by the Adobe products that are also freely available for Linux. These products include Acrobat Reader, the AIR software development kit, as well as Flash Player. In this video I just illustrate the installation process for Adobe Acrobat. The process for the other Adobe products is similar. OK, to do so let's first navigate to the Adobe home page, which is shown here and I have links to download the previously noted products. I click Get Adobe Reader, I select different language or operating system to show you the variety of options that are available. And then I can click the Select an OS drop-down text box and I see of course the options for Windows and Macintosh operating systems but I can scroll down and see several options for Linux downloads, including executable.bin files, compressed archives in tar.gz or tar.bz2 format, packages for Debian distributions such as Ubuntu and, of course, the good old RPM, Red Hat Package Manager package suitable for Fedora, which we'll download here. There are a variety of languages available and I click Continue. It proceeds to give me more information in what's available; three different versions. I click Download Now and it prompts for a download. But that takes a little while so I've already downloaded the RPM package, which based on Firefox defaults is saved in my home directory in the Downloads Subdirectory. So since it's in the Downloads Subdirectory, I'm going to proceed to open a terminal, which I've already done here. I confirm what's in the Download Subdirectory. This is the RPM package here. I've taken root administrator privileges with the SU command along with the root administrative password and now I can install the noted RPM package with the RPM-IVH command. I stands for Install, V stands for Verbose Mode in case there are problems and H provides has marks which tell me the progress of the installation. But that also takes a little bit of time so I've already installed Acrobat Reader and once the installation is finished, you'll find Acrobat Reader in the Applications Office Menu and there it is.
