Fedora & Red Hat / Test Fedora's Live Media
Subtitles of the Movie
Test Fedora's Live Media. Fedora's Live Media is a bootable CD. The steps required to book a PC from a CD vary by hardware, so consult your hardware documentation if needed. Once you set up booting from the CD it's set up to automatically boot the Live Media in 10 seconds unless you press a key, such as Escape. When you do, or if you do, you'll see a screen such as that shown here, where you can just boot the media, verify the media and then boot, test the memory of the local system, or ignore the CD and boot from the local hard drive. Since the boot process from a CD takes a few minutes Ð I've already set up a different Virtual Machine here, and yes, I did have to login, but it's an automatic login screen where you just have to press OK, you don't even need a password. The default user is a Live System User, and it's a fully-featured Desktop, limited only by access speed to the CD or DVD drive. It's fully-featured as the Applications Menu has a lot of standard applications except games. The Places Menu allows you to test access to local directories as well as network directories using the Nautilus File Browser. You can test administrative functions through the System Preferences or the System Administration Menu. We go over a number of these options in quite a bit of detail in much of this course. The top Task Bar even has access to the Firefox Web Browser, and based on the Network Icon shown here I have an active network connection, so I can even browse the Internet from this Live CD. One more important option, as shown here, is this Install to Hard Drive option. It starts an installation program directly from the Live CD. As the steps and options from the Live CD installation program are almost identical to a regular installation I don't cover this installation program separately. Thank you, and on to the next video.
