This is my Mike Jang and it has been my pleasure to create this course for you. I'm also the author of a number of other Linux titles including several associated with Linux certification. If you want to go further with Linux and learn Linux administration, I recommend a couple of other VTC courses on the Red Hat Certified Technician and Red Hat Certified Engineer Exams. Even if you don't plan to take these exams, these are practical courses suitable for real-world practice. If you work through these courses, I believe you'll be a long way towards learning how to use Linux in the real world. Yeah, when I was changing careers I started my IT studies by working towards my MCSB and got it for the NT 4 Series of exams. But while I was doing this, I took a Linux course and have been sold on this open-source operating system and the associated philosophies ever since. When you study this course, remember it's based on practical skills so the best way to study is to take the topics discussed and practice what I've shown you again and again. I was only able to skim the surface of a number of topics, such as graphics, file servers, security and more. If you want to become more of a Linux expert, I urge you to explore more about these topics. To this end, VTC offers courses on the GIMP, which is the Linux equivalent of Photoshop, as well as Linux security. VTC also offers courses on other Linux distributions, including Novell SuSe, as well as Ubuntu Linux. There are also courses available on other Linux certifications including Linux Plus, given by Comptia and certifications associated with the Linux Professional Institute.
